It seems that a lot of people really really hate match-making with randoms, and so I have (been) volunteered to organise a regular custom games night open to all forumites. If you’re interested, post your availability in here.
The idea is for it to be a weekly affair, but if that’s too much grief then we can always do it fortnightly. The initial format will be that each person gets a go as party leader and they dictate the gametype and map. Anything goes, but I should warn you that ban requests and removal from friends lists will result if anyone suggests a VIP game…

i’m not sure we’ve had a bare bones thread where PS3 owners have given their review/opinion of the machine.
I’d like Stebbo in here for example please. ( assuming he’s sourced some games for his PS3 )
The first episode of Sam & Max Season 2 is out now. It’s called ‘Ice Station Santa’ and obviously Christmas-themed. Actually, it’s quite heavily Christmas-themed, so it feels a little odd to be playing it in November - maybe it’d be best to wait a few weeks before starting it.
Impressions:
The very first thing you get in the game is something that takes you through all the settings for the game, which is absolute genius. There’s also a tutorial, which is just the first bit of the first season without most of the cutscenes and with some extra dialogue explaining the controls.
Unfortunately, the start of the game for real is a bit of a mess. Loads of random stuff happens in about 30 seconds, and I was left feeling a little bewlidered. The pacing gets better, though, and it does get back in it’s stride pretty quickly.
That said, though, the episode reminded me a lot of the Toy Mafia one in season one - some funny bits (in particular trying to make an elf cry and a rat with tourettes), but mainly it seems to be coasting along. It’s enjoyable and polished enough, but it doesn’t compare to the better episodes of season 1. It’s also really easy, but I guess that’s because it’s the first episode of the season. I only got stuck once, and that was because the solution didn’t make much sense - if I’d been thinking that I had to use everything in my inventory for something I probably would have got it.
Some nice new features include the ability to run (double click and hold down the second click) and a hint system. I turned on the hint system on the second to top level to see what it did and it seems to make Max tell you in vague terms what you should be doing next every so often. At the second to highest level, he was telling me things I was already planning to do before I had a chance to do them, so the highest level must be for people who don’t want to think about the game at all I turned him back on when I did get stuck, though, and he wasn’t much help because he just told me the room to go to, which I already knew - but I guess if he told me the answer to the puzzle it’d be a bit crap as well.
Despite claims on the Telltale website, this isn’t really a good starting place if you’ve never played series 1. Three quarters of the characters are from the previous series, with lots of references back. I’m not sure whether this is a good thing or not - it’d be annoying if there was no continuity, but some new characters would be nice as well.
Reading that back, it sounds a bit negative. I did enjoy the game, and I’ll definitely be playing the rest of the series (I’ve bought it already), it’s just that this episode did pretty much what I expected and nothing more, which is a shame.
