The rules are designed to provide a standard for poker on an international scale and can be used at poker tournaments around the globe.

“We have built on the substantial work of the Tournament Directors Association and have moved down the path of unifying and standardizing tournament rules for competitions around the world,” explained WPA Chairman Wendeen H. Eolis. “The tournament rules are part of the WPA’s mission to unite world poker entities by unifying standards of play.”

The WPA Tournament Rules Committee Chair, Thomas Kremser, who also acts as the tournament director for the European Poker Tour, oversaw more than 100 hours of committee and Board of Directors discussions to reach consensus on the newly published rules. He was pleased with the end result.

“The WPA Tournament Rules reflect a good balance between the needs of tournament personnel and the needs of players to insure fairness and consistency,” Kremser said.

The new rules will be distributed at the WPA Mega Satellites and card rooms are invited to comment.

The WPA also took the time to mention that their own members are will be held accountable to an even higher standard.

“The WPA requires all of its members to adhere to stringent Code of Ethics that is designed to promulgate professionalism and the highest standards of sportsmanship,” said Eolis. “The new WPA Tournament Rules worked hand and hand with this mission.”

The WPA is recommending anybody interested in the organization to check out its 2008 Inaugural Conference Program which will be held May 28-29 in Las Vegas. The program will feature numerous poker players and authors and will be moderated by the “Mad Genius of Poker” Mike Caro.

It’s becoming a popular trend with online poker rooms these days. Give players with considerably smaller bankrolls the chance to play in events that mimic the prestigious and format of the real deal in Las Vegas.

The Full Tilt MSOP will run from May 30 through July 5 with a total of 54 events up for grabs (the casino ladies’ event and Seniors event have been changed to open style events because of the online format and the casino employee event has been nixed).

Each winner will receive a special edition Full Tilt champions watch in addition to their first-place prize money.

Players can even win a seat into the 2009 WSOP Main Event by working their way up the MSOP leaderboard and finishing on top.

Taking a quick look at the MSOP schedule players will see there are plenty of $15+$1.50 No-Limit Hold’em events for players with limited bankrolls but there is also a $500+$35 H.O.R.S.E. event for those looking to play something a little more advanced.

The entire MSOP will have a total of more than $700,000 in guaranteed prize money so there is definitely money to be made in the series.
