Saturday, May 31, PartyPoker will play host to a $1 million guaranteed tournament, which kicks off at 12:45 p.m. ET. It is the finale of May Madness and has a championship-style blind structure, promising plenty of play.

For a $640 buy-in, participants will receive $20,000 in chips to start. Blind levels will go up every 20 minutes, and there will be breaks every hour.

PartyPoker is also offering several ways for players to qualify for the tournament rather than putting up the full $640 buy-in. One of those options is to earn 250 Party Points during the week to gain entry into the May Millions Special on Friday, which will send at least 30 players to the $1 million guaranteed.

“There are so many different ways to qualify for the $1 million guaranteed on Saturday. Whether you use PartyPoints, $1, $4, $8, $10, $35, $70 or pay the direct buy-in of $600+$40, the routes in to the finale are endless,” said a PartyPoker spokesman.

“There [are] also country-specific freerolls this week that provide the opportunity to win seats.”

The country-specific freerolls will get players into the May Millions Special on Friday, and a third way to gain entry to the Friday tournament is through both 10 PartyPoints and 50 PartyPoints daily qualifiers.

PartyPoker also has a super-satellite system players can work their way up from to get into the $1 million guaranteed finale for as little as $4. There are also $1 and $8 sub-qualifiers and $10 single-table tournaments that will get players into the twice-daily $70 May Millions qualifier.

The $1 million guarantee will be the last of the May Madness, which saw PartyPoker guarantee a prize pool for every tournament during the month. More than $12 million was up for grabs for players at all different levels and games on the poker site.

Enough of all this nonsense about shiny people shooting even shinier things, lets have pink and blue types drilling through mysterious brightly coloured blocks on a quest to save the town and world!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr_Driller

Now this is the game that got me back into games after becoming very bored around the late PSOne era. The first version is surprisingly hard to get into, but once you’ve been in that zone once it clicks amazingly.

I recall having some discussions with forum types hear about how if you’re drilling whilst walking left or right it’s slightly faster than just walking, and this makes quite some difference later on. The other key is maximising your air returns in the stages which form enormous combo sections.

The other great thing about this game is the way it started unofficially inside Namco as a Dig Dug 3 effort amongst developers, but later it was deemed good enough to let out. Probably not an ideal model, but it certainly shows that this was a game made for the sheer love of it, and not just because they had to.

And lastly there should be some next gen version of this with hopefully lots of Drill Land like characters to mix it up a bit. I’ll be grinning like a fool when it finally comes around, hopefully with a western release this time.
